The fungus provides the plant with nutrients, trace elements and water. This occurs because of its extra-radical hyphae which extends beyond the root system by manifolds and thus increases area of nutrient absorption. The plant on the other hand supplies the fungus with vital carbohydrates. This natural association occurs in 90% types of plants.
